Get to know Accelerate better with these ten facts about his life & career:
Accelerate earned thirteen triple-digit Beyer figures in his career. Beyer figures, created by Andrew Beyer, show how fast a horse ran based upon distance, final time, and the inherent speed of the track. Triple-digit Beyer figures means that a horse ran very fast!
Accelerate was purchased at the Keeneland September Yearling Sale for $380,000.
Throughout his career, Accelerate out-earned his purchase price by winning $6,692,480.
On that same note, Accelerate was ranked 2nd by earnings in 2018. Only Gun Runner won more with $7 million in his bank.
Accelerate’s 12 ½ length victory in the Gr.1 Pacific Classic set a record for the largest margin of victory in that race.
Accelerate tried his hand in the Breeders’ Cup three different times: he finished 3rd in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile in 2016, 9th in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile in 2017, and finally won the Breeders’ Cup Classic in 2018.
He is one of just three horses to win the Gr.1 Santa Anita Handicap, Gr.1 Gold Cup at Santa Anita, and Gr.1 Pacific Classic in the same season.
Accelerate was given the Eclipse Award for Champion Older Dirt Male in 2018.
He is one of just four horses to win four or more Gr.1 races at distances of over 1 ¼ miles.
Accelerate retired to Lane’s End Farm at the end of his 2018 season. His first foals will hit the ground in 2020.
